Uttamanusorn Bridge is the official name but more commonly the bridge is referred to as Mon Bridge Uttamanusorn Bridge is said to be the longest wooden bridge in Thailand and is the second longest in the world. The total length is just a bit under 450 metres. The bridge connects the town of Sang Khla Buri and the Mon village on the other side. While the bridge looks old it was constructed in 1986-1987.
The bridge is a popular destination far into the Kanchanaburi province.
A popular activity to join is early in the morning, when the monks from the local temple come to the bridge and locals and tourists give alms to the monks. Many dress up in traditional clothing and tourist often can arrange this clothing at their hotel or home stay. Be ready to wake up early as the monks will be at the bridge around 7 am.

Mon Village side of the bridge

After having given the alms to the monks you can enjoy a nice breakfast at one of the cafe’s near the bridge on either side of the water. We went to a cafe close to the entrance to the bridge and had some delicious Thai breakfast containing of Jok (Thai rice porridge) and Pa Thong Ko (fried bread pieces). The Pa Thong Ko here was huge and delicious.

In the sunset in the evening the bridge is worth a visit as well.

After the visit to the bridge you can enjoy some other interesting sites in the area. You can arrange a boat tour on the lake to see the underwater temple, visit on the same tour Wat Somdet. Or visit any of the beautiful temples in the area like e.g. Wat Wang Wiwekaram or Chedi Puttha Khaya.

On the way back to Kanchanaburi town you could make a short stop at the Kroengkrawia waterfall at the Khao Laem National Park. It is a good stop for a drink or something to eat and at the same time visit the waterfall.

Getting here
The Mon bridge is located in the town of Sang Khla Buri which is located far into Kanchanaburi province. From Kanchanaburi town it is another 200+km to get there. Arrange your own tour or rent a car. We got a minivan with a driver to bring us here. There are plenty of places to stay at small local hotels or home stays. We stayed on the Mon Village side of the bridge at the MonStay Resort, which is at walking distance from the bridge. We were very pleased with this small local hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
