A Must-See in Thailand

Srinakarin Dam is located in Kanchanaburi province and has created one of the largest reservoirs in Thailand. The dam itself is also among the biggest in the country, though the Bhumibol Dam in Tak province is even larger. Still, Srinakarin Dam is absolutely worth a visit! The surrounding nature is stunning, and the nearby Erawan National Park and its famous Erawan Waterfall are must-sees. Around the park, you’ll find plenty of options for water sports and unique places to stay overnight.

Getting There

There’s only one road leading to the dam. At the top, you’ll find a small parking lot, some souvenir shops, and a mini supermarket. And, as you’d expect in Thailand, there are plenty of food and drink stalls to enjoy local snacks.

Where to Stay

There are several places around the lake where you can spend the night. The road to the dam is lined with beautiful resorts—check out the Mida Resort, which is also featured on this site. Coming from Kanchanaburi, you’ll even find floating rooms to stay in just past the dam. One of these spots calls itself the “Maldives of Thailand.” That might be a stretch, but they do offer a unique experience! I haven’t been able to judge the quality myself, though.

Accessibility

As far as I know, there’s no public transport that goes all the way to the dam, so you’ll need your own vehicle or a taxi to get there. Some tour operators include the dam as part of their trips to Erawan National Park. The dam is about 55 km from Kanchanaburi city, and the road is well maintained. Along the way, you’ll see plenty of signs pointing you in the right direction.
