Nestled in a bend of the Chao Phraya River lies Bang Kachao, often referred to as the “Lung of Bangkok.” This vast, lush green peninsula is renowned for its fresh air, tranquil landscapes, and thriving biodiversity. For birdwatchers, Bang Kachao offers a sanctuary where the sounds of traffic fade into the melodious calls of resident and migratory birds. Look for Pink-necked Green Pigeons, Stork-billed Kingfishers, Greater Racket-tailed Drongos, and migratory species in April (see more at the website of thaibirding.com)
Bang Kachao Park (Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Park and Botanical Garden)
This expansive park is the heart of Bang Kachao and a prime destination for birdwatchers. Shaded walkways, ponds, and mangroves attract a diverse array of bird species. The park also includes a special bird watching tower.

I have been here a few times to spot birds and to just walk around. The green surroundings are just very relaxing. I came here during weekdays and it was very quiet. Below you see some of the birds you can spot here but the website Bang Kachao Wildlife is a great source of additional information.

Getting here
A popular way to reach the green lung is to take one of the ferries at Klong Toey Pier or Bang Na Pier across the river. Once you reach Bang Kachao area many visitors rent a bike to get around. Bicycles are a popular way to explore the area, as many paths wind through parks, orchards, and small villages.
You can come by car as well and find a parking spot near the entrance of the park. During my weekday visits there were hardly any other cars (might be different earlier in the morning or towards sunset).
If you do drive, parking is available at Wat Bang Nam Phueng Nok and Bang Nam Phueng Market.
